At MyWorld Immigration, we understand the importance of being close to the ones you love. That’s why we proudly assist clients in navigating Canada’s Family Sponsorship programs, which are designed to reunite families by allowing eligible Canadians and permanent residents to sponsor their loved ones to come live in Canada.
Family Sponsorship is a stream under Canada’s immigration system that allows citizens and permanent residents to bring certain family members to Canada and help them become permanent residents. The sponsored person must meet eligibility requirements, and the sponsor must commit to supporting them financially for a defined period.
Canada offers several sponsorship categories:
1. Spouse or Common-Law Partner Sponsorship
Sponsor your legally married spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner to live with you in Canada permanently.
2. Dependent Child Sponsorship
Bring your biological or adopted children under the age of 22 (who are not married) to live in Canada with you.
3. Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship (PGP)
Sponsor your parents or grandparents through the annual PGP intake, or apply for a Super Visa as a temporary alternative.
4. Other Eligible Relatives
In rare cases, you may sponsor orphaned siblings, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren, or a relative if you have no other eligible family members in Canada.
To sponsor a family member, you must:
Agree to a written undertaking to financially support the sponsored person for a specific time

Processing times vary depending on the category and the applicant’s country of origin. Spousal sponsorships generally take 12 months, while parent/grandparent cases can take longer.
Yes, for spousal and dependent child sponsorships, there is no specific income requirement. You may still be eligible to sponsor, provided you submit strong supporting documentation that demonstrates your ability to meet the financial undertaking, even if you are not currently employed.
Yes, you can sponsor multiple family members if they meet the criteria and you meet the eligibility requirements.
Canada does not have a separate fiancé(e) sponsorship category. However, you may be eligible to sponsor your partner as a conjugal or common-law partner if you meet certain criteria.
Some streams, like the Parent and Grandparent Program, have annual quotas and invitation-based intake. Others, like spousal or child sponsorships, are always open.
